Field-research and expedition material by Jan Chipchase. Not Baseworks content.

  • jan-chipchase-one-body-principle.pdf — short essay on the “One Body Principle” applied to expedition teams (originally credited to 2018 Short Walk medic Sam Kellogg). Frames a team as a single resilient organism that grows into itself, learns from experience, holds itself up, and tolerates imperfection. Used as a reference in the Spring 2026 Study Group Session 4 (April 25, 2026) when discussing how a cohort moves at the pace of the group as a whole.

Jan Chipchase runs Studio D, a research consultancy known for “Short Walk” expeditions through remote regions (notably the Wakhan Corridor in Afghanistan). The material here documents principles developed in those field contexts. It is third-party intellectual property included for occasional cross-reference; it is not part of the Baseworks method.
