Hello you two, I hope you’re doing well. I’m taking the time to write to you this morning because I’m really in a place right now that doesn’t allow me to invest as much as I had imagined in the program.
We’re currently caring for a friend who has mental health issues, my back has been giving me trouble for a few weeks, and I’m feeling fragile… We’re in the process of buying a house and the appraisal file is also taking a lot of time. So I’ve fallen behind and I’ve already missed two sessions. I was wondering what you think, but I was wondering if by chance you were doing another cohort right after… That might have allowed me to stretch out the program a bit and get back on track. I look forward to hearing from you.

Note: The original email included forwarded messages (CC thread between Any Guay, Diane Trudeau, and Geneviève) about an unrelated matter — an internal dispute within the Association Québécoise de Trager. These messages were not directed at Baseworks and are not recorded here.
Response sent (2026-02-12, EN):
Thank you for reaching out and for being so honest about where you’re at. We really appreciate you letting us know.
We understand that life circumstances can shift unexpectedly, and what you’re navigating right now is a lot. We genuinely empathize with your situation.
That said, we want to be transparent about how we can support you. Because you’ve already started this cohort and the program is designed as an integrated experience with this specific group, we’re not able to transfer your enrollment directly into a future study group. We hope you can understand that in fairness to others, including participants in this cohort who have also had to manage difficult circumstances around attendance, we need to be consistent in how we handle these situations.
What we can offer:
Your access to the Baseworks Primer online course remains active, and you have three months from your enrollment date to complete it at your own pace. We’d encourage you to continue working through it when you’re able — it’s valuable material on its own, and completing it will give you a strong foundation.
We’re planning another cohort (likely in Mile End starting in April). If you’re able to make time in your schedule then, you’d be welcome to join at a discounted rate since you won’t need to pay for the Primer component again. We can discuss specifics when we finalize the pricing closer to that time.
We hope this feels like a fair path forward, and we genuinely hope things settle down for you soon.
Asia and Patrick
Response sent (2026-02-12, FR):
Key topics addressed:
- Acknowledged personal circumstances (caregiving, health, house purchase)
- Clarified cohort transfer policy: enrollment cannot be transferred to a future cohort
- Fairness rationale: consistency with other participants managing attendance difficulties
- Primer access remains active (3-month completion window)
- Future cohort (April, Mile End) offered at discounted rate (Primer component waived) Precedent notes:
- First documented withdrawal/transfer request — establishes policy position: no direct transfers, but discounted re-enrollment for future cohorts (Primer fee waived)
- Response tone: empathetic but firm on policy, with a concrete alternative offered

Hello! I hope you’re doing well.
I finally bought and sold a house in the last few weeks… phew! What a relief!
I was wondering what you could offer me if I joined the session on Casgrain… since I wasn’t able to follow the last cohort.

Context:
- Follow-up to Feb 10–12 exchange where a discounted rate was offered for a future cohort (Primer component waived)
- Geneviève paid $226 CAD with tax for Winter 2026 (campaign discount from the $197 USD full price)
- She completed only the first two Primer assignments and had a hip condition limiting full physical participation
- Spring 2026 full price is $205 USD (
$320 CAD with tax); Tier 1 campaign rate is $145 USD ($227 CAD with tax) - Offered $125 USD (39% off full price, ~$195 CAD with tax — less than her Winter payment)
- Registration closes April 1, 2026; program starts April 4, 2026
Response sent (2026-03-31, EN):
Hi Geneviève,
Congratulations on the house. That sounds like it was quite an undertaking.
We’d be happy to have you join us for the Spring cohort on Casgrain. We can offer you a rate of $125 USD for this cohort. We want to be clear that this rate is specific to the Spring 2026 program — pricing for future cohorts is subject to change. To register at this rate, use coupon code GEN-SG-SPRING-26 at checkout. Your Baseworks Primer completion window will reset from the date we receive your payment, giving you three months to complete the full course. If you complete it within that window, your access extends to one year.
We can see that you completed the content covering the first two assignments, which is a solid start. We’d still encourage you to redo those so you’re on the same page as everyone heading into each session. We’d also ask you to think about your schedule between sessions so you can stay on track with the subsequent assignments. The program is structured so that the online content and the in-person sessions build on each other, and that works best when everyone is working through the assignments at the same pace. We found throughout the Winter cohort that working through assignments close to the weekend doesn’t support comprehension for what we cover in person. The course is structured so that a little time each day keeps the workload manageable, but everyone’s lifestyle and work commitments are different, so it’s worth considering that in advance.
We also wanted to check in about how things are going physically. We never require anyone to do anything beyond what feels comfortable. Moderation according to individual condition is built into the method. At the same time, some level of active participation in the physical practice is what makes the program work. If you feel your condition might limit your ability to engage comfortably across the seven sessions, it may be worth waiting for a future program. That said, we’re not certain when the next cohort after this one will be, so we wanted to be straightforward about that as well.
You can find all the details about the Spring Study Group here: https://baseworks.com/event/montreal-study-group-spring-2026/
Registration closes tomorrow (April 1) and the first session is Saturday, April 4. Let us know and we can get you set up.

Response sent (2026-03-31, FR):

Bonjour Patrick and Asia, I hope you are well. I am wondering which lessons we are doing before Sunday, do we finish at 5.8 or do we keep on Ignition. I can’t find the information.

Good evening Manon,
Completing Segment 5 is the last assignment for this cohort. In case you missed it, we posted an update on the group feed with details about the current assignment workflow — you’re welcome to complete the rest of the course at your own pace from here.
We’ll be continuing with one session per week from March through June for all Study Group participants, mostly on Saturday mornings or early afternoons. These sessions will be in Mile End, close to Laurier Metro. As a reminder, if you complete the entire Primer course within three months of your start date, you’ll have access to it for one year — which will be especially useful if you continue joining us for those subsequent sessions.
Thank you for letting us know about the interviews. We look forward to seeing you on Sunday!
Patrick

Hey! I just saw an ad for baseworks that included an image of someone from our group. I just wanted to check that our images are only being used with consent. I am a public figure and I don’t want images of me used in Baseworks advertising.
Context:
- Clementine is a Montreal-based writer and public figure (~250K Instagram followers, Substack newsletter, podcast)
- She signed the standalone participation waiver (Google Form) before the first session, which includes the media release with opt-out provisions
- She agreed to the Terms of Service media release at registration
- She was not present at either of the two sessions where focused photography and video took place
- She did not exercise the opt-out at any of the three consent steps (registration, waiver form, on-site verbal check)
- The ad she referenced contained images of other participants, not of her
Response: Posted as a pinned forum post (EN + FR) in the Winter 2026 cohort forum, with a brief group feed reply linking to it. The response outlines the three-step media consent process (registration Terms of Service, standalone participation waiver, on-site verbal check) and clarifies that Clementine was not present at the focused photography sessions.

Good evening, Asia and Patrick, I hope you’re doing well.
As for me, my daughter and I have been going through a very emotional and sad time over the past month. My daughter Gabriella, who was 25 weeks pregnant and being monitored by the high-risk pregnancy unit at Hospital Sainte-Justine, had to terminate her pregnancy on March 26 for health reasons, both for her and for little Sunny. We are currently mourning the loss of this little angel, our hearts in pieces. My daughter is slowly recovering from this difficult ordeal.
I am writing to you tonight because when I logged into my Baseworks account today, I noticed that I no longer had access to it. I thought the expiration date was April 5. So my question for you is: Is it possible to extend my access to the Baseworks platform by one week so I can complete the 10th segment? We never know Yes or No !
Thank you, and have a nice evening Guylaine Demers
Response sent (2026-04-05, EN):
Guylaine,
Thank you for writing to us, and for sharing what you and your family have been going through. We are very sorry to hear about Gabriella and what she has had to endure. Please take all the time you need — there is nothing more important than being present for your family right now.
We have extended your access to the Baseworks platform through the end of April. That gives you well beyond the week you asked for, so there is no pressure to rush. Whenever you are ready to return to the last segment, it will be there.
If there is anything else we can do on our end, please let us know.
Take care, Patrick and Asia
Key topics addressed:
- Acknowledged family emergency (daughter’s pregnancy loss at 25 weeks)
- Primer access extended through end of April (participant requested one week; we extended through the full month)
- No pressure to rush — access will be there when she is ready
Precedent notes:
- First compassionate access extension — establishes that in cases of serious family emergencies, Baseworks extends access generously beyond what is requested
- Response tone: genuine, concise, no performative sympathy — acknowledges the situation directly without excess
