Publication: Veggy Issue: Apr 2011 (filename 2011_04_Veggy_Article.pdf) Language: Japanese NAS path: 2011/2011_04_Veggy_Article.pdf Interview & Text: Satoko Horie Photographer: Patrick Oancia (one credited photograph — Tokyo, 2010) Format: 4-page feature

A profile of Dave Stringer, an American kirtan musician and yoga teacher, built around his music and the cultural/spiritual context of kirtan practice. Satoko Horie wrote the piece. Patrick contributed one photograph, taken in Tokyo in 2010 — placing Stringer at a YogaJaya-connected event the previous year.

  • Dave Stringer — American kirtan artist with an international following in yoga communities; his inclusion in Veggy follows the same editorial logic as the Steph Davis (J84) and Dennis van den Brink (J86) features — notable figures in the international conscious-lifestyle community given a platform through YogaJaya’s media relationships
  • Patrick’s photo dated 2010 — confirms Stringer visited Tokyo/YogaJaya in 2010 before this April 2011 article appeared; the Satoko/Patrick editorial team documented the visit and published it some months later
  • Same Satoko + Patrick editorial team — this is the fourth consecutive Veggy article using this production model (J84 Oct 2010, J86 Nov 2010, and now J90 Apr 2011)

Transcribed from PDF scan at 150 DPI. 4-page Veggy series feature on Dave Stringer (kirtan musician). Section headings bilingual English/Japanese, clearly legible. Body text is dense 6–8pt Japanese; key legible passages captured. Pull quotes and photo credits fully legible. Uncertain characters marked [?].

[Introduction] Kirtan is one of the yoga practices passed down from ancient India — chanting mantras repeatedly in the manner of a Buddhist sutra. This activity, known as kirtan (devotional chanting), has gained popularity worldwide in recent years. We went to speak with Dave Stringer, a central figure in the kirtan movement.
