Baseworks Project Summary
Section titled “Baseworks Project Summary”What is Baseworks?
Section titled “What is Baseworks?”Baseworks is a movement methodology that fundamentally shifts focus from what movements are performed to how movement is performed. Rather than teaching specific exercises or sequences, we emphasize awareness, perception, and control over habitual movement patterns.
Core Pedagogical Principles
Section titled “Core Pedagogical Principles”- Distributed Activation: Engaging the entire body system rather than isolating specific muscles
- Micromovements: Working with subtle, refined movements that develop proprioceptive awareness
- WHILE-NOT-IF-DO Framework: An algorithmic instruction approach that teaches practitioners to maintain awareness of multiple body systems simultaneously
The methodology can be applied across different movement practices—it’s not about learning new movements, but about transforming how you approach any movement.
Current Montreal Programs (2026)
Section titled “Current Montreal Programs (2026)”- Proto Studio Sessions: Educational programs running March-June 2026
- Circuit-Est Study Groups: Ongoing community practice sessions
- Hybrid Learning Model: Combining online primer courses with in-person workshops
Photography & Videography Needs
Section titled “Photography & Videography Needs”We’re seeking creative visual documentation that captures:
- The quality of attention and precision in how practitioners move—not just the shapes they make
- Subtlety and nuance: Micromovements and distributed activation require a sophisticated compositional eye
- Educational clarity: Content that can be used for teaching, promotional materials, and knowledge base development
- Professional aesthetic: Clean, compelling visuals that communicate the methodology’s rigor and depth
Ideal Collaborator Profile
Section titled “Ideal Collaborator Profile”- Strong composition skills and creative vision
- Ability to capture subtle physical details and body mechanics
- Interest in movement, somatics, education, or body-based practices
- Portfolio-building opportunity: documenting a unique, internationally-operating methodology
- Comfort working in studio/rehearsal environments with moving subjects
Why This Matters
Section titled “Why This Matters”Baseworks operates internationally across Quebec, Japan, and Europe. Quality visual documentation is essential for:
- Building our educational knowledge base
- Communicating a complex methodology that’s difficult to convey through words alone
- Supporting both local Montreal programs and international operations
- Developing marketing and communication materials that accurately represent the work
Background Context
Section titled “Background Context”- Founder/Head Teacher: Patrick (also handles technical integration, content creation)
- International operation with deep roots in Tokyo (nearly 20 years) and recent establishment in Montreal
- Collaborative approach with neuroscience research backing (Asia’s reverse-engineering of methods)
- Strong emphasis on systematic, precise instruction that differs from conventional movement/yoga teaching
