Micro Movements
Type: Micro-movement principle Perceptual skill targeted: Proprioceptive (muscular mechanosensation)
Keep “repeating” the movements that establish Distributed Activation, as if “tracing” around the current macro-position. These continuous subtle adjustments maintain sensory clarity and prevent habituation to the current position.
MM amplifies conscious awareness of muscle states and is thought to contribute to sensory discrimination refinement — potentially including phenomena such as sensation “splitting” reported by experienced practitioners.
Relationship to DA: Distributed Activation establishes the baseline of whole-body engagement; Micro Movements maintains and refreshes it continuously. If DA creates the signal, MM prevents the nervous system from habituating to it.
Note — Micro Movements (principle) vs. micro-movements (category): The Micro Movements principle (MM) specifically refers to continuously re-applying DA-type contractions. The broader category of micro-movements includes all subtle, near-invisible adjustments in Baseworks — subdivided into Contraction, Position, and Relaxation types. The principle is one expression of the category. See Micro- and Macro-Movements for the broader distinction.
