María Lucía Agón Ramírez Transmission

In this episode, Patrick Oancia, Asia Shcherbakova and Maria Lucia Agon Ramirez discuss the experiences that shaped Maria Lucia’s career in and education through dance, from co-founding the Tanzmoto Dance Company to the creation of Mukti Espacio Vivo. The conversation gets into Maria Lucia’s personal journey, including her struggles with educational expectations, the importance of family support, and the influences that led her to focus on spaces for authenticity and self-expression in her professional and personal life.

BRAIN FODDER — Royston Maldoom and Dance as Social Bridge

Section titled “BRAIN FODDER — Royston Maldoom and Dance as Social Bridge”

Royston Maldoom · Duisburger Philharmoniker

If you can dance together, you can live together.

Royston Maldoom

On the topic of networks, dance and choreography (very much inspired by our recent Transmission episode), Maria Lucia’s mentor, teacher and collaboration partner, Royston Maldoom dedicated his life to using dance as a transformative tool for social change.

His work spans over 30 countries, often in crisis areas where social and political conditions have made peaceful coexistence challenging.

From apartheid-era South Africa to war-torn Balkans and Northern Ireland, Maldoom has consistently used dance as a means to bridge divides and promote reciprocity.

Maldoom’s approach goes beyond tradition, seeing dance as an antidote to exclusion, hostility, dogmatism, populism, and various forms of discrimination.

Consider how Maldoom’s work challenges societal norms:

In a women’s prison, he simply advertised “Dancers wanted,” creating a label-free space where inmates could reconnect with fundamentals of human interaction.

His projects with school children in Berlin’s “problem schools” culminated in performances with the Berlin Philharmonic, showcasing the impact of art.

And as you contemplate this:

  • How can physical movement and touch facilitate understanding between diverse groups?
  • In which ways, might the act of creating art together transcend social, cultural, and economic barriers?
  • What role does community building play in supporting empathy and breaking down preconceptions?

AND, as you reflect on this, how could these principles be used in your own community to bring people together and build meaningful connections?

Ties back to campaign 84’s Colombia tour — María Lucía Agón Ramírez is the founder of Mukti Espacio Vivo, Baseworks’ Bucaramanga partner. Still uses the /physical-intelligence/ URL as “key concepts” — current positioning has moved “Physical Intelligence” to b-roll status, not a hero page label. The Brain Fodder questions format is closer to the current prompt-and-reflect style.
