A lot of body awareness and body control, and also more awareness of my mental state and control of my mental state. For example, my balance got way better. Also, being able to move muscles that I didn’t even know I was able to move at first.

Physically, I noticed that my stance got way better, my posture got way better. I’ve got higher self-esteem somehow, and I feel better overall. Also, just mental control and awareness has had a very huge impact on my life. I got much more awareness of what’s going on within me. I can way better deal with things that are emotionally challenging now, and especially I notice if anything might get challenging in advance and can take a step back before it gets too much.

We always check on our body and see if we have to modify anything if it gets too much, and we are encouraged to take a step back if it gets too hard or too challenging for the day.

It doesn’t hurt anymore. In the beginning, I really had a lot of shoulder ache when I was using the elliptical machine. Now that I’m more aware of how I’m moving my body, it just got better. I could use a lot of things from Baseworks when doing kickboxing. I was able to keep balance, and I had to contract my muscles. I also had the strength necessary to get a good punch in. The first time I went there, my teacher was very impressed that I was so strong. He had never seen a woman hit the targets like that.

The self-confidence comes with noticing the progress and being able to keep the forms, or also with how the body changes—feeling fitter and in a good shape. Also, Baseworks has a lot of body control. At least to me, it’s mainly being able to control my body and being aware of my body.

We are always encouraged to be aware of a lot of things—from keeping our shoulders down to keeping a few tips. It takes a lot of awareness to really do everything right.

I’m sleeping way better. That’s true. I think I gained more self-confidence in speaking to people and more confidence in leaving my comfort zone. Overall, a lot of knowledge or theory—it was a lot of new information for me, especially in anatomy. I was very interested in all of it and I feel I really learned a lot, also about why we do things the way we do it in Baseworks, and also the background and everything.

I felt I had already gained a lot from it, and I just wanted to deepen my knowledge and understand way more about the whole practice and Baseworks. Before, I really just saw Baseworks as a physical practice. Now I know there’s a whole lifestyle behind it—being more aware and having stillness, awareness somehow.

It’s good to see that the teachers also think that they can still learn something and they don’t know everything. They can still improve and practice.

I was able to modify pretty much everything. There wasn’t anything that I absolutely couldn’t do. At first, when it started to become painful, I didn’t know yet what it was. I just asked the teacher and she gave me some advice—what I should really avoid. She told me not to do anything that hurts. I was very careful and stuck to modifications and variations, and also saw for myself what worked and what I could do. I knew that I could do modifications and do other things, and I didn’t have to hurt anymore. I think we’re pretty much fine again.

Physical movement is good if you have an injury, and I think the pairing up and teamwork that we did is great for teaching, because I also get to see how other people move their bodies and try to advise them. It really improved for me seeing if someone else is doing something right. It looks a little bit different for everyone, so it’s a way to get a better understanding and better control of myself, my body, and my mind.

It is a movement practice that will help you gain better awareness, a lot of strength and flexibility, and better control over yourself and your mind. Also, if you just want to work out, it’s also great.
