Article Summary
Section titled “Article Summary”Steph Davis is a free-solo rock climber, BASE jumper, and skydiver based in Utah. She visits Tokyo for a lecture at the Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Modern Art (東京都現代美術館), attended by yoga practitioners and mountaineering enthusiasts.
On yoga practice:
“I often do yoga at home — pigeon pose and cow face pose to build flexibility for hard climbing. The most important thing is breathing. In yoga, when you’re in a pose with physical pain or muscle tension, breathing gradually releases it. The same applies in every situation — being conscious of breathing to calm the mind allows for efficient reset.”
“Feeling fear is natural. Rather than fleeing in the wrong direction, what matters is cultivating the capacity to feel fear, face it directly, and keep moving forward.”
“Meeting her in person, you wouldn’t believe this small and charming woman climbs sheer cliffs alone. The eyes of someone who declares ‘adventure is learning’ held unmistakable inner strength.”
