Teacher: タリック・ターミ (Tarik-Tami)

Section titled “Teacher: タリック・ターミ (Tarik-Tami)”

First appearance in archive. Mysore-style Ashtanga teacher based in Shibuya. Teaches the traditional Mysore approach: students practice at their own pace; teacher circulates to give individual adjustments rather than leading group sequences.

On how yoga became interesting: H: I read a book about yoga 10 years ago and became curious. At that time, the fundamentals weren’t well known in Japan. I practiced on my own. I started with a friend and tried Ashtanga first — it was very hard. After about 3 years, I started getting into it, and 4 years later I realized “ah, I finally understand!” That’s when the depth started to open up.

On what distinguishes Mysore style: T: In Mysore style, practice is truly 1-on-1 between teacher and student. I observe every student, and my instruction is completely adapted to each body. The most important thing for the teacher is to understand each student’s practice and their pace.

On who benefits: H: Being at Mysore Tokyo, I feel the self-paced format is good for everyone — from beginners to advanced practitioners. Advanced students are here, but beginners are very welcome. T: Anyone can benefit. Even a beginner — the first 15 minutes, even if they only learn one thing, the energy shared creates something. Maintaining daily practice matters more than how advanced you are.

On Hikaru’s journey: H: Through this series, I’m glad I was able to explore so many different yoga spaces in Tokyo. Each place taught me something different. I hope to keep the yoga gypsy spirit going in my own life.

T: “Practice proceeds slowly. Once you start yoga, change always comes — keep your eyes open.”

  • Series finale: Episode 13 closes the “Hikaru’s Tokyo Yoga Gypsy” column after approximately 17 months. The series documented Hikaru visiting different Tokyo yoga studios — not necessarily YogaJaya
  • YogaJaya not directly featured here — this is about Mysore Tokyo; YogaJaya appears only in Hikaru’s bio context
  • Tarik-Tami: first and only archive appearance; independent Ashtanga teacher with Shibuya studio
  • Hikaru’s yoga background detail: started with Ashtanga ~10 years before 2007 (≈ 1997); found it hard initially; depth opened after 3–4 years — parallels to Patrick’s 1997 start noted in other articles
  • Hikaru’s dual teaching role confirmed: this final episode bio lists “yogajaya” and blog at savannaco as her base; earlier bio in J67 adds YOGA ONE
  • Press page relevance: low for YogaJaya directly; high as documentation of Hikaru’s standing as a published yoga journalist/columnist in 2007
