EXPAND
Working with overall body extension. Antithetical to the concept of “back bending” — the goal is to use DA, MM, and FSA to systematically work on the mobility of each joint involved in overall body extension, exploring the compounded expansive potential of the body.
Example: In a kneeling position, feet on tiptoes — tuck the pelvis, pull the ribcage in, grip the toes back (trying to extend the knees, opposed by keeping the center of gravity over the base of support), draw the shoulders down, lift the arms, and then — while wiggling the ribcage — lift the sternum diagonally forward, only to the point where there is no compression in the lower back.
Note: Along with CONVERGE, EXPAND is probably the closest to common exercise/fitness goals. Some forms carry both CONVERGE and EXPAND foci.
