01.03 How to Engage With the Course — Transcript (English)

Section titled “01.03 How to Engage With the Course — Transcript (English)”

As we are moving into the actual learning part of the course, please review these guidelines to get the most out of this program. They cover how to approach the course, manage your time, and prepare for practice, addressing common questions to set you up for success.

1. How Much Time Will It Take?

1.1. Video Content

The course includes about 10 hours of video across three lesson types:

  • Theory Lessons: Explore key concepts and frameworks. Watch these anywhere, and feel free to revisit them for deeper understanding.
  • Practice Key Points: Break down movements for upcoming practice sessions. Watch at least twice before practicing, pausing to try movements if needed.
  • Practice Lessons: Follow-along movement sessions. Do these in a quiet space where you can move freely without interruptions.

How to Approach Them:

  • Theory: Watch at least once, but revisiting can deepen your grasp.
  • Key Points: Review twice before practice and revisit if questions arise.
  • Practice: Upon completing once, use our “smart revisit” system, which suggests reviewing completed practice lessons (especially shorter “Practice Labs”) before moving forward. You can revisit 2–3 lessons or skip to new content based on your preference.

(SMART REVISIT SCREENSHOT HERE)

With over 70 lessons, including ~30 practice sessions (20 shorter “Practice Labs” (2-10 min) and longer “Practice Sessions” (15+ min later), expect to spend 15–20 hours engaging with videos, depending on how often you revisit.

1.2. Additional Content

Lessons may include optional materials like summaries, transcripts, or quizzes. You can choose how much you want to engage with the supporting materials, depending on your learning style.

You can also engage in our Prime community forum to ask questions and connect with others or join live Q&A sessions with instructors. The community forum is a vibrant space to share insights, ask questions, and connect with others. Each lesson’s Discussion tab lets you start threads, and instructors regularly engage to provide guidance.

The time you invest beyond videos depends on your interest and availability, with a minimum of 10–12 hours to complete the core content.

1.3. Pacing Your Learning

We recommend completing one segment per week (starting with Segment 2 after this orientation) for optimal learning, revisiting lessons as needed. Progress in Baseworks builds gradually, as it involves developing new movement and perceptual skill.

While you could rush through in a few days, this isn’t ideal. Think of Baseworks like learning a language: regular, spaced practice (e.g., 2–3 sessions weekly) helps your body and mind absorb the material more effectively than a single marathon session.

2. How to Prepare for Practice

No special props are needed. Practice barefoot on a hard, non-cold floor. If socks are necessary, use anti-slip sports socks.

The movements are designed to be accessible to all, regardless of athletic background, and aren’t physically demanding. As one student said, “The movements aren’t difficult; what’s challenging is how precise they are.” So even experienced movement practitioners may find unexpected challenges.

Conversely, if you’re new to movement, have a desk job, or manage minor aches, the course starts with simple, adaptable movements you can tailor to your comfort level. In Segment 4, you’ll learn the Principle of Intensity Modification to adjust movements safely, avoiding pain or joint compression.

3. Balancing Theory and Practice

The Primer Course is a practical introduction to the Baseworks Method, with theory lessons focused on supporting the experiential learning. If you’re curious about deeper scientific or theoretical insights, explore our website or events directory for additional content and events.

For course content-related questions, use the Discussion tab in each lesson to start a forum thread or ask during live Q&As.

4. Tips for Success

  • Create a Routine: Set aside short, consistent practice times (e.g., 15–30 minutes, 2–3 times weekly) to fit your schedule.
  • Stay Curious: Approach movements with an open mind, noticing how your body feels rather than aiming for perfection.
  • Engage with the Community: Share experiences in the forum to stay motivated and learn from others.
  • Use the Dashboard: Track progress and follow “smart revisit” suggestions to reinforce learning.

We’re excited to get you started on this journey of physical intelligence and mindful movement. While Baseworks is not the only path to physical intelligence, it is a structured, direct path to lead you there directly. In this way, it is a perfect companion to your other physical activities and daily life. We are excited to get your feedback on the changes you might notice.

Let’s get started!
