Welcome back.

In this short introduction, I’ll walk you through the flow of the course curriculum and I’ll provide an overview of each module and share some other valuable insights to keep in mind as you navigate through your learning journey.

We’ve been working for years with diverse groups of people across different formats of education.

And this introductory course is a companion for our in-person events as well as a foundational base for deep exploration through online practice.

We’ll introduce you to how we do things in Baseworks and explanations as to why we do them, with a focus on getting used to and understanding what we mean by all the instructional cues.

And we’ll also outline the principles that clarify a lot of the stuff in the practice.

The forms are the basic unit of learning the Baseworks method.

We’ll explore why we don’t actually call them exercises and how to approach them without the exercise mindset.

We’ll do this by looking at several forms which are essential to Baseworks.

We’ll also briefly cover the key principles of movement in Baseworks.

Although consistent practice in Baseworks can lead to gains in strength, flexibility, mobility, and other fitness objectives, we look at goals a bit differently.

When we practice each form, we’re really focusing on understanding how breaking down the movements develops better awareness.

If you have a general idea of “focus” in Baseworks, you’ll avoid falling back into familiar movement habits.

And in this way, you can pay more attention on how you’re moving while staying engaged in each form.

Again, we’ll explore this by looking at some of the key forms where “focus” in Baseworks is especially clear.

So safety is one of the most important things in our practice and it’s really super important over any kind of perceived gains.

In this segment, we focus on a practical understanding of our Intensity Modification principle to make sure that practical stuff is approached as safely and productively as possible.

Understanding this will help you to build the most productive and appropriate engagement regardless of your energy levels or other circumstances.

This segment focuses on quality of movement.

Transitions are where we explore both how to effectively work within your capacity and how that understanding can be transferred to greater agility and control.

In these segments, we’ll look at the ignition and assimilation practices that could be incorporated into Baseworks practice or even alongside of it.

These components are designed to support calibrating your physical and mental state and recognize and retain insights gained during the practice.

And this feeds directly into better body awareness.

The practical work here will consist of getting familiar with some introductory ignition and assimilation practices.

The last three segments will provide a theoretical reference for accompanying short practice sessions where you can try and apply the principles to better inform the practice.

Cycling is a concept that I developed to address the hierarchical gains-based approach to practice that often gets carried over into Baseworks from other movement practices that is not really relevant to progress in Baseworks.

It’ll provide an overview of how alternating between different aspects and intensities or other types of practices develops a much broader perspective on individual outcomes.

Journaling is a really effective tool that’s been used across history to document and reflect on past experience and learning.

Because there’s usually a lot of subtle realizations that come up for everyone that practices with us, in order to correlate them to actionable stuff in life, we’ll cover why documenting and analyzing your experiences is invaluable.

We’ve created a great tool for journaling on the platform which allows for you to chronologically refer to the entries whenever you want.

Practice does make perfect and as with anything else, the more consistency there is, the deeper the outcomes and realizations will be.

In this segment, we’re going to outline some practical guidelines for maintaining consistent practice in a way that works across any type of lifestyle or other commitments.

By the end of the course, you’ll be familiar with Baseworks, movement dynamics, and the vocabulary we use to describe movement.

And we’ll also give you some advice so that you can apply everything that you’ve learned on the course to be able to adapt that to to a regular practice in the method.

So what you’ll learn here has helped thousands of students to increase body awareness and change the relationship with their bodies.

And this can be really immediately transferred across to any type of practice.

And on that note, we’ll see you in the next lesson.
