Patrick Oancia on Movers Mindset — Cycles

On the Movers Mindset podcast, this conversation between Craig Constantine and Patrick Oancia discusses the concept of balancing structure and chaos to create a practice that offers both foundation and room for individual exploration. Patrick shares his experience in developing Baseworks and how it combines structure with the opportunity for limitless possibilities.

They also touch upon the significance of finding deep connections and the value of building relationships within communities.

Patrick made reference to Steven Kotler’s work with flow state and Alan Watts insights to describe the qualities of skill building and widening perception.

This content was initially released as a video podcast on the Movers Mindset members platform on April 9, 2020. Subsequently, Craig Constantine deactivated the platform and initiated the development of a new public podcast platform, where the audio episode was reposted for the general audience on June 15, 2023.

BRAIN FODDER — AI and Movement Education

Section titled “BRAIN FODDER — AI and Movement Education”

AI and movement education

The emergence of AI is expected to bring about significant shifts in the realm of movement education. Although it has a potential to revolutionize fitness and progress-tracking and routine customization, we have yet to see what’s going to happen when large numbers of people will start learning about movement practice from text generated by disembodied LLMs like chatGPT.

Although traditional knowledge and practices may become diluted, and the quality of learning, guidance, and personal autonomy may decrease as people rely more on AI-generated advice for their fitness goals, the future may not be as bleak if we prioritize our intention and attention appropriately.

To get a great perspective on the future of AI and tech, we recommend reading Kevin Kelly’s book The Inevitable. Although published in 2016, it remains a timely reference to the emergence of technology and AI and its potential to transform education and industry. You can also check out his Ted talk.

This newsletter pre-dates the current Baseworks Brain Fodder framing — the “Brain Fodder” section here is freeform commentary rather than the current prompt-and-reflect structure. The Kevin Kelly / AI riff still tracks with later positioning around discernment and attention. The “fitness” language in the Brain Fodder section is no longer approved voice — per current guide, replace with “physical background” or “physical disciplines.” Footer still lists the Estonia address but adds the Montreal Suite 200 address.
