In July, Baseworks founder Patrick Oancia and Baseworks co-developer and CRO Asia (Ksenia) Shcherbakova were invited as panelists at WordCamp Canada 2024 in Ottawa to discuss multilingual development.

For our readers unfamiliar with WordPress, it is a Content Management System (CMS) that currently powers 43% of all the websites on the internet and accounts for an impressive 62% of available CMS solutions. WordCamp is a WordPress community event.

All our sites are built on WordPress, which provides scalable functionality. For example, our Practice Platform includes many custom functions we built that are unavailable and unachievable in off-the-shelf SaaS solutions like Kajabi, Thinkific, and Teachable.

In this report, we outline our experience at WordCamp Canada and trace deep parallels between language and movement, web development and movement learning, and WordPress and Baseworks.

Decision-Making Autonomy, Self-Care Skills, and Body Awareness

Section titled “Decision-Making Autonomy, Self-Care Skills, and Body Awareness”

UNAB Bucaramanga lecture with Encuadre Psicología

Another cool thing that we did on our trip to Colombia this past March 2024, was to present our research and findings at the Autonomous University of Bucaramanga (UNAB) in Colombia through a collaborative effort with the university and the center of comprehensive care and mental health consulting Encuadre Psicología. The key topics included the mechanisms underlying decision-making, the notion and types of body awareness, and the approaches to developing self-care skills.

We organized two lectures during this event. The first lecture, titled “Facilitating Autonomy: Making More Conscious Choices — Lessons Learned from and Inspired by Baseworks,” was designed for a broad audience. The second lecture, aimed at clinicians and psychologists, was titled “Movement and Self-Care: A Sensorimotor Perspective on Body Awareness — Lessons Learned from and Inspired by Baseworks.”

Both presentations explored scientific topics drawn from our research, aiming to elucidate the outcomes and underlying principles of various techniques of the Baseworks method.

BRAIN FODDER — Movement and Critical Thinking

Section titled “BRAIN FODDER — Movement and Critical Thinking”

Movement and critical thinking

Physical movement and critical thinking are closely connected. Engaging in activities like exercise, dance, or simple gestures affects cognitive processes and enhances problem-solving abilities. Movement increases blood flow and oxygen to the brain, sharpening mental acuity and improving focus. Coordinating complex movements also strengthens neural pathways stimulating neuroplasticity.

The Baseworks method connects physical movement with critical thinking by emphasizing the cognitive and perceptual aspects of movement tasks. Through structured practice, it amplifies body awareness, motor control, assimilation, and cognitive functions.

Have you ever experienced something that made you feel that your movement practice has opened a different perspective on problem solving? If so, send us your thoughts at ideas@baseworks.com.

Dual-feature issue — WordCamp Canada 2024 panel report plus a retroactive recap of the March 2024 Bucaramanga lectures with Encuadre Psicología. Uses “fitness” language in the Toronto workshop blurb (“health, vitality, and physical education”) which is borderline per current voice; “fitness” itself is avoided now.
