Section titled “Althea”It’s such a good feeling. I guess I just have more bodily awareness. I’ve learned to really slow down my thinking and just hit one thing at a time, and I think that does translate across into other activities.
I wanted to try Baseworks because I have an interest in the science behind movement and also cognition. The movements themselves aren’t difficult. What’s difficult, I think, is how precise they are. I’ve just had to learn how to be so concentrated, so I’m able to be more present, I think.
When I’m doing Baseworks, I’m learning to almost slow down. I’m so focused on breaking steps apart that I find I do that actually in other activities in life. I do find I think more conscientiously. I’m just very aware of my body in a way I wasn’t before.
The immediate effects of doing a Baseworks session physically—complete relaxation. I mean, it obviously takes work to do that. It didn’t just happen magically. Just the fact that I even have the skills to just turn off my tension—the fact that I now know how to do that is incredible.
I have tried so many different ways to get rid of shoulder tension and even sciatica, and the fact that with Baseworks I’ve learned how to just do that on and off—that’s been really useful. I’m just very aware of my body in a way I wasn’t before.
